Lift Stations: Best Maintenance Practices & Upgrades

Lift stations may not be the most glamorous wastewater treatment plant topic, but they present many opportunities for upgrades and improvement. Though operators regularly check the operating hours of the lift station pumps, issues can still sneak up. Many of the plants that participate in our IEPA WWTP program could improve lift station pumping modulation and improve maintenance to increase overall lift station efficiency.  We also discuss upgrades to pumps that help with clog reduction, energy savings and maintenance. We share ideas for cleaning pressure lines and checking valves to improve efficiency and rectify issues with back pressure and recirculation.
