What is Cook County Sun and Save?
Cook County Sun and Save accelerates the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV systems) for income-qualified residences in Cook County. The goal is to make solar PV installation accessible for eligible Cook County residents and to reduce energy burden, utility costs, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The Cook County Sun and Save program fully covers the cost of solar PV installations on eligible owner-occupied homes in Cook County. The program is for residents whose household incomes are above 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and at or below 120% of the AMI.
The program is intended to run through Summer 2026 or until funds run out.

Become a Qualified Solar Installation Contractor for Cook County Sun and Save!
Sun and Save is seeking qualified solar installation contractors to partner with the program beginning in June, 2023. Contractors may apply to serve as Qualified Installers or as the Direct Installer. Please refer to the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and Program Guide for program details.
Qualified Installers
- Will provide turnkey solar installation services for the program.
- Will be listed in program marketing materials.
- Can recruit eligible projects.
- Interested solar firms must meet minimum qualifications outlined in the RFQ
- RFQ responses will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Direct Installer
- One direct installer will be competitively selected based on criteria outlined in the RFQ.
- RFQ responses for this role are due July 10, 2023 at 5:00pm central time.
- Will provide turnkey solar installation services for the program.
- The Direct Installer will be sent Participant referrals generated by the Program Administrator (estimated at 30-40 over the program duration) when the participant has not identified any other Qualified Installer.
- Will be listed in program materials.
- Will help market the program and recruit eligible projects.
